Rooted in the Industrial Revolution, it has drawn new immigrants for a long time. Ethnically diverse Chicago can boast many prominent residents. President Obama got his start in politics, and television host Oprah Winfrey rose to fame in Chicago. Michael Jordan led the Chicago Bulls to six National Basketball Association championships. Musicians Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy and many others contributed to the development of Chicago-style blues.
