Americans honor those who lost their lives defending their country. On Memorial Day, many Americans visit cemeteries to honor family members and others who died while serving in the U.S. armed forces. For others, Memorial Day marks the unofficial beginning of summer, and many people travel to the beach or host barbecues and picnics.
